Typhoon Emong wrecked havoc on Asbury College; Operation ASCO Relief Fund initiated (May 29, 2009)

A reliable source confirmed Asbury College sustained substantial damage from recent Super Typhoon Emong which ravaged much of the western Pangasinan in May. All the dormitories and two classrooms were badly damaged almost beyond repair. Other staff residences on campus also weren't spared. The cost of the damage is unknown at this time.

The Asbury College Alumni Association of North America launched a project called "Operation ASCO Relief Fund" to solicit monetary donations from alumni, friends, and sponsors around the world. Proceeds will go toward the repair or replacement of facilities, equipment, and services on the campus. If you wish to donate, please proceed to our Pledge webpage. Dr. Gemina C. Celso leads Asbury College as the new Director. (July 12, 2008)

Dr. Gemina "Eming" Celso convened her first school Personnel General Meeting last Friday, July 4. "Pastor Glenn Cativo, the new chaplain, led the devotion. Mrs. Veronica Celeste reported on increase in enrolment for the Pre-elementary and Elementary departments with 75 enrollees, the college department with more than 100 enrollees (with slight increase). However, the high school enrollees decreased by 40 in the first year. I hope we can make a study about the causes to come up with solutions for the coming school year. Madam Jerry Cubos welcomed the three new employed teachers." she explained.

According to Dr. Celso, the highlight of the first personnel meeting is the framing of the school calendar of activities for this school year [2008-2009]. "It made us think of strategies to improve Asbury through small ways we can," she added.

During the meeting, Dr. Celso also outlined two specific short term projects to undertake. She mentioned, "We've scheduled July as Nutrition Month: with planting of malunggay around the perimeter of the campus. All will undertake vegetable and ornamental gardening and planting of fruit-bearing trees. However, [we are]...concern[ed] of the unfenced perimeter (eastern area) which served as entrance of stray animals. We're praying for God's provision for hog wires and bamboo (putek) to fence it. This is the initial implementation."

In addition to being the new Director, Dr. Gemina Celso still taking an active role as College Dean of the school and teaching college courses.

High School Enrollment Has Dropped....Need for More Scholarship Fund... (2006)

Mrs. Jerry Oria, the High School Principal, recently reported that the enrollment in the high school department has dropped during the current school year. She said that more and more families are unable to afford to send their children to school. She also reported that due to low financial resources for scholarships, the school could only offer scholarship grants to very few indigent students. Due to this drop of enrollment the school also suffers financial loss. She is appealing to all Asbury alumni to please support the school Scholarship Fund/Program.

With the offering of two new college degrees, the enrollment in the college department has gone up a little bit. However, because college tuition fees are a little bit more expensive, the school is also in need of scholarship funds for indigent students entering college.

Mrs. Oria also gave the following information on Tuition Fees for High School students for one School Year and for college students for one semester:

First to Third Year students ........... P4,000.00
Fourth Year students..................... P5,000.00
College students.............................P5,000.00

Mrs. Oria and the whole Asbury community continue to pray that alumni and friends will support the Scholarship Fund/Program. If anyone is able to generously support this program, please send your financial support to: Asbury College, Inc., Anda 2405 PHILIPPINES, and designate it to High School or College Scholarship Fund. Any financial help anyone could share will be greatly appreciated by the whole Asbury family. May God continue to bless us all more abundantly.

On Faculty Development... (2006)

Congratulations to two members of our Faculty who successfully finished their advanced education.

Ms. Annabelle C. Celeste graduated in April 2005 with a degree in Masters of Arts in Education with a major in Educational Management.

Ms. Gemina C. Celzo, our College Dean, also graduated in April 2005 with a Doctorate in Educational Management.

It is our hope and prayer that more faculty and staff will be able to take advanced courses for them to be more skilled and effective teachers and leaders of our School. A lot of them need financial support to be able to do this. May we take the challenge to support our teachers in this endeavor. It was reported that it will cost about $75.00 (US Dollars) per semester for a teacher to enroll in a Master's program. One can sponsor a teacher/faculty. If anyone is able to help in this endeavor, please feel free to write Rev. Caasi and let him know your intentions. Or, you can send him an e-mail at this address: caasiharry@yahoo.com.

On Athletics...(2006)

Asbury College garnered an impressive 1st Runner Up at the last Private Schools Regional Athletic Association (PRISAA), Pangasinan Division Meet. In spite of our lack of atheletic equipments, the Asburian athletes were still strong and determined in competing in all the events they participated. This just shows the Asburian spirit: strong will...endurance...patience...optimism...and faith. Congratulations and a big thank you to all the Asburian atheletes and faculty who represented our School in this prestigious event!

More College Courses Now Offered in Asbury... (2005)

Asbury has been granted a government permit to open teacher education programs this School Year (SY) 2005-2006. The school has been enrolling students for the Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED). We are all excited about this new development in our school history. We hope and pray that not only more students will be attracted to Asbury but also that our school could be more effective in helping our youth not only in Anda but in the neighboring towns to have a higher education, which in turn will ameliorate the life conditions our people have. This new development in our school, however, means that many more needs are to be met, and one of these is the 'speech lab.' We need financial support to build the lab. If you are able to support this project, please feel free to send your support to the school treasurer, Mr. Manuel Versoza, and he will in turn will acknowledge your donation with a receipt. We praise and thank the Lord for all your support to our school, without which we will not be where we are at now.
